![]() ![]() ![]() Our TV was one of those ancient box sets that had a large wooden keypad remote that was attached via a large cable directly to the set. I'd than carry it all to the foot of the pull-out, leaving a milky trail in the carpet along the way, and I'd drag all the pillows off the bed and scatter them around the floor to stretch out on. I used to sit at the kitchen counter and pour out a bowl of Cocoa Krispies and Sugar Smacks (they didn't sell these in Canada so this was a big deal to me!) and toast a bagel with Cheese Whiz. We had a floating kitchen off the livingroom with an old fashioned 50's diner-style counter facing into the livingroom where the TV set was situated, and there was a large queen sized pull-out sofa that my mom would leave open for me every morning so that I could lie in bed and watch cartoons quietly. Even my extreme childhood fear of the dark couldn't keep me away from my cartoons! I'd crawl out of bed and build up my will to tip-toe accross the dark empty bedroom with my eyes focused the entire time on the ambient room light that poured under the tiny crack of the door from the adjacent livingroom. As a kid I was always an early-rise and I remember waking up every morning just as the sun was coming up while the rest of my family was still fast asleep. My grandparents had a condo in Hallendale, Florida and we would go down to stay with them every year over the winter holidays. Living in Montreal, the only exposure I ever had to these stations was when our family would vacation to the States. ![]()
